A fibre laser is a system in which "the active gain medium is an optical fibre doped with rare earth elements such as erbium, ytterbium, neodymium, dysprosium, praseodymium, thulium and holmium".
The main advantage of the fibre laser is its stability. Indeed, it can handle the shocks, vibrations and general discord of any assembly line. In addition, a fibre laser will offer a straighter and smaller beam than other lasers, more effective for cutting for example.
